Happy Father's Day

This is my dad...Philip Evans Miller. This picture sort of captures him. He is 67 but still playing games. He is a grown man, respected by all, but still takes time for enjoyment. He has worked with youth groups for over 30 years and I am amazed at how the youth interact with him. They have this unbelievable respect and healthy fear of him, but still treat him as if he is one of the guys. Gretchen tells me often that it is scary how much I am becoming like him, but I think that is OK. If I can be half the man he is, I'll be doing alright.

I'm a dad too and the freshness of this truth never gets old. This morning Gretchen asked why I seemed so distant today as the girls were giving me their Father's Day gift (a pack of underwear - they were very excited!). I guess it is because on days like "Fathers Day" I realize how much of a weight I carry for being a dad. I'm responsible for loving, teaching, and training three little girls. The older they get the more I realize how delicate each day is...full of opportunities for growth or missed chances. I fail them often and they deserve so much more but I will continue to try my best to be the Father they need. I love them so much and am grateful to God for the blessings He has given me.

So Happy Father's Day dad and all dads out there. May you count your blessings today and give praise to the God that deserves it.
