Seven Pounds

Chuck and I watched Seven Pounds last week while we were in Des Moines. The movie stars Will Smith and Woody Harrelson among others. I think it is a movie that will cause you to think and will offer plenty of conversation pieces with those that have seen it. It is hard to describe much, if any, of the plot without giving it away so I will refrain. The writer does a wonderful job of allowing you to kind of get what is going on but not quite being able to piece it completely together. Seven Pounds is a complex story of redemption, forgiveness, good, evil, sacrifice, and love. If you get a chance to view it, let me know. I would love to talk about it with you.

Saw it. LOVED it. Although I totally freaked several times, it was amazing.

Finally saw this movie, it is one that I have to see again to try and pick up some more things. some thought though...
1. Will Smith always good (maybe not I am Legend...but good for what he was given to work with).
2. Great Danes are awesome but I like my dachshund's better...
3. New decorating idea for the sea creatures nursery theme at church.

(If you haven't seen the movie don't read past this)

4. Donating organs, great thing to do that can really change peoples lives...what do you need them for when you are gone anyway?

5. More importantly we need to recognize God is the giver, sustainer and ultimately taker of life. Loneliness, depression, or guilt as in Ben's mind does not give us the right to choose who lives and dies.

p.s. didn't understand what the hockey coach received from Ben, do you?

Suicide always makes me angry. I am really, really angry about it. Can you help me get over the anger? What did Gretchen think of it? I didn't go to the movies to see it. Gary bought it bootlegged at work for $5. I gave him a lecture and then popped it in the DVD player. It was clear as could be!

Don't read if planning on seeing movie!!!

Philip - I agree. That is why I was so torn. It was a great gesture for Ben to use his body to help others live. But the final act of his "giving" stepped over bounds. His action is never acceptable because in a sense - He was playing God. I also think it is a classic case of someone being motivated by guilt and willing to do anything to somehow earn forgiveness and healing.

Also - I believe the hockey coach received his kidney.

Becky - you should be angry about it. he didn't have to do that. in a perfect world he would trust that it is God's place to decide if she received a heart or not.

Gretchen didn't see it and I'm not sure if she ever will.

just saw it this weekend w/my friend Erin and we definitely loved the movie, but both sat in silence for a bit in our seats as the credits were rolling... it was intense. a lot to think about. but yeah, the suicide thing... never the answer but you can totally see why he did it. I would have been so mad at him if I were the girl though. what a bittersweet gift. will smith did amazing just like he did in pursuit of happiness.
