A few years ago I somehow was placed on John Eldredge's Intercessory Prayer E-mail list. I received this one last week and I believe it is the best way to pray concerning our vote tomorrow. I thought I would share it with you. If you are like me you are pretty sick and tired of the political ads, talking points, and shenanigans of politicians. I also believe God establishes Kings (or presidents and house & Senate representatives) and kingdoms, so I am not fearful of the potential outcomes. But we as the church have a responsibility to follow Jesus in all aspects of life - even when it means casting votes. So I have been praying this prayer for me and others that claim to follow Jesus. You may want to consider praying it with me. Here it is:
Friends, my hunch is you already have been, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask you to be praying about next week’s elections. I think the prayer is simple, really: That God would constrain his people by his Spirit in them to do what is right. This is a good prayer because so many other things can motivate us, like fear, or the power of the advertising, all that gets thrown at us as an election approaches. Emotions are high, but I’m not sure clear thinking is. I wish I had the confidence that God’s people would not be phased by any of it, but we are human and sometimes we are swayed by things other than the Spirit of God. So that’s the prayer for this weekend, that God’s people would be moved by his Spirit and nothing else.

Good stuff Jamie. I hope you felt guided as you voted yesterday. I know that I had a lot of mixed feelings about the whole deal and I did spend quite a bit of time in prayer and research and then more prayer and then more research before finally making peace with my decision. Hope you didn't have to wait too long in the lines.
Great prayer! Thanks for sharing. Although it was a little late, I did post it on my site today - because I feel like it's still important and relevant.
