Legos

This is my little Macie last week in Lego Land at the MOA. Her cute little pudgy face lit up when she saw all of the legos and realized they were for her pleasure. It wasn’t like other stores where she was constantly told, “No Macie. Don’t touch that Mace.” Nothing was out of bounds (well except for the creations other kids were building). Now Mace is just a little over 2 years old so her lego masterpiece basically consisted of a wall. She would simply stack the pieces on top of each other as high as they would go. Every now and again she would get stuck so I would help get her piece on. When the glorified lego walls would get pretty high she would turn around, look at me, and with a very excited voice say, “We did it dad! We did it!” Over and over again for about an hour this happened – Stack the legos high…”We did it dad! We did it!”…wall would crumble, start over.

Hearing the cry “We did it dad! We did it!” made me think of my life a little bit. I, like most people, are building things every day. I am not speaking literally here obviously. I can’t build anything. But we are building something with our lives. We are building companies, faith, families, communities, churches, etc. In my life I’m a part of building the Kingdom of God on campus, building a ministry, building a family, building a church, building friendships, building spirituality, etc. And just as Mace had me to help her with her lego-building, I have the help of my Father. I want to rely on my Father, believing He ultimately is THE (abs) builder. I am simply the faithful servant, working hard while trusting Him. I’ve had a few moments like Mace over the last several years where I could look at God and say, “We did it Abba! We did it!” I long for more of those moments. Moments where dreams are realized, visions become reality, and building projects are completed. Moments like “Well done good and faithful servant. You were faithful.” So I’ll keep building, knowing my Father is near…cheering and assisting me. Waiting to hear me say, “We did it Dad! We did it!” so He can say, “Yes we did son. We did!”
